CORALVILLE, Iowa -- McKendree claimed the team title at the inaugural NCAA Women's Wrestling Championships on Saturday night in Coralville, Iowa.

The Bearcats finished with 171 points, five points ahead of runner-up Iowa.

"It was a great weekend," said McKendree women's head wrestling coach Alexio Garcia. "We made sure the ladies were focused one round at a time. Since January there has been no stone left unturned and it paid off."

Cameron Guerin (131) won her fifth collegiate title and was one of three national champions for McKendree.

"A lot of people dream of one title and never get it," said Guerin. "To get five, I'm so proud of myself. I'm so proud of my family, my team that's behind me. It's definitely not just one person. So many people pour into me. I can say it means the world a million times but I'm just the happiest person in the world right now."

Also winning national titles for the Bearcats were Yu Sakamoto (117) and Tristan Kelly (207). It was Kelly's second straight national championship.

Runner-up Iowa also crowned three national champions. Olympic silver medalist Kennedy Blades (160) and two-time senior world medalist Kylie Welker (180) repeated as national champions, while Iowa's Val Solorio won the title at 103 pounds. Welker is now a three-time collegiate national champion and adds an NCAA title to her growing list of accolades.

"I never would have thought that I would be able to become an NCAA champ but it has a nice ring to it," said Welker. "I'm so blessed for the people that did what they did to make this happen."

North Central was third in the team standings with 123.5 points and crowned a national champion at 145 pounds with Bella Mir. She won by fall in the finals over No. 1 Reese Larramendy, a past national champion.

No. 1 Grand Valley State finished fourth on the strength of seven All-Americans, four national finalists and a national champion, Katie Lange (138). It was Lange's third collegiate national championship, winning her first title at Augsburg and her last two at Grand Valley State. In addition, Lange became the first NCAA women's wrestling champion crowned with the finals starting at 138 pounds.

"I haven't even wrapped my head around it," Lange said of becoming the first NCAA women's wrestling champion. "It's such an awesome accomplishment. I get to etch my name in history. That's a big deal."

Other national champions included Lehigh's Audrey Jimenez (110) and Quincy's Xochitl Mota-Pettis (124).
